Despite the economic slow-down, we have seen a substantial increase in our sales of vegetable and herb seedlings. We attribute this to the costs of store bought produce, freshness and its safety along with a reconnection to the land and the therapy that it can bring. Growing your own food and seasonings is both a rewarding and challenging endeavor. We at PPC believe that the rewards outweigh the challenges. To improve your chances for success it is vital to establish a sound foundation of quality soil, access to consistent water, proper fertilization, timely identification and response to insect and disease problems and maintenance of the garden itself; for example: mulching, weeding, trimming and staking. With these recommendations, you improve your chances of reaping the tasty rewards. Further, the therapeutic benefits of a productive garden are beyond measure.
At Pukalani Plant Company, we have been growing vegetable and herb seedlings for 15 years. Our goal is to consistently offer a complete selection of the many common and local vegetable and herb varieties. Our seed is obtained from suppliers such as Johnny’s Select Seed, Vis Seed, Ball Seed, Fukuda Seed and the University of Hawaii Seed Program. In the near future will be offering some vegetable varieties that are better suited to container gardening. We get asked occasionally whether our seed is genetically modified. To the very best of our knowledge, the answer is no. We do not purchase GMO seed. Also, customers ask if our vegetable seedlings are organic. They are not. To be organic is to begin with certified organic seed. We may see some organic seed in our mix but our growing process is not completely organic. However, we do make every effort to use chemicals that are cleared for organic gardening.
Thanks to all of you who use our vegetable and herb starts. If you ever have any questions regarding these products or other products we produce please send us an email. We will get back with you as quickly as we can. Also, take a look at our plant availability list on this site to gain an idea of all the varieties that we grow.
Aloha
